“An existential tension passes through all of artwork by Agnès Btffn, who tries to unsettle what is complacent and celebrate vitality, and an awareness of our presence in the world. Btffn invites us to rediscover the path of becoming aware of our relationships to things, our relationship to each other and our relationships to the world. Through a new ritual, she invites us to discover the mystic nature of existence, to engage in mystical experimentation and seek, for ourselves, beyond the established, settled and disembodied dogmas.”

Btffn inviterer oss til nok en gang å gå den stien hvor vi kan sanse tingene, erkjenne vårt forhold til hverandre og vårt forhold til verden. Med et nytt rituale inviterer hun oss å gjennoppdage eksistensens mystiske natur. Hun vil at vi skal delta i merkelige eksperiment og søke etter oss selv bortenfor de etablerte og avkroppede livssannhetene samfunnsmaskinen produserer.”

‘Part of my works nourishes itself by expressions of other cultures far away from the culture within I am raised. I fetch som of my strength in doing other people’s daily gestures, like balancing things on the head, using textiles to cover the body in different ways as min, and many other aspects that connects me to the ‘other’…
Through those gestures which shape my performance works, I aim to reach and embrace other people on the other face of the world.

Like we use the power of gravity on our bike, other use it to carry burdens… see the work RubsCULpTURE.
The use of textiles to cover or uncover our body is very different from one face of the world to another. I endorse some of the ways the Other use them and connect to thoses ways in a visual live action. Se for ex the work «SPIN in the winter sunlight – HORIZONRISE/SUNSET »

I want to be reminded of the spherical shape of the earth and those gestures bring the experience closer to me.
